Digicel Foundation refurbishes Waldensia Primary and Piedmont Basic
published: Tuesday | May 29, 2007

SHERWOOD, Trelawny:

Students attending the Waldensia Primary School and their teachers have started a new technological chapter in their lives, following the handover of a recently refurbished and equipped resource room at that learning facility on Labour Day by the Digicel Foundation.

The newly furnished air-conditioned reading centre, financed by the Digicel Foundation to the tune of $2 million, was equipped with four computers, an overhead projector, a DVD player, a printer and other educational resource material.

Additionally, as part of the Labour Day scheme, there was a major renovation exercise carried out at the Piedmont Basic School, which shares the premises at the primary school.

Overpowered showers

Not even the intermittent showers could put a damper on the Labour Day activities as scores of residents from the community united with members of the Sherwood Foundation and the Digicel Foundation, led by Chairman Harry Smith. Several Digicel team members also volunteered for the workday.

Even though it was not the designated parish project, the double-venture attracted a number of prominent Trelawny residents, among them politicians from the two major political parties including Member of Parliament, Dr. Patrick Harris, JLP caretaker Dennis Meadows; councillor for the division, Fernandez 'Bingy' Smith andthe PNP caretaker Telka Holt. World Junior 200-metre record holder Usain Bolt and guest speaker Audrey Barrett, wife of the Custos of Trelawny, were among the strong public and private sector representatives present.
