Deportation backlash
published: Monday | May 28, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

The deportation of Abdullah el-Faisal from London must be taken seriously. If the allegations against this individual are true, we must not take this man lightly. There are too many negatives regarding Jamaica at this time and we cannot afford to have terrorism on the list. This could have a real negative impact on Jamaica and tourism and could have a backlash on Jamaicans getting visas to travel overseas. His presence here could attract the wrong people on the island.

I am sure we are now being watched by the U.S.A. and the international community against terrorism. My advice to the police is that this man made a choice, while he did not commit any crime in Jamaica, his presence on the island is a risk to national security. We as Jamaicans are under the microscope and we must come together as a country and unite to rescue our image that we have lost.

I am, etc.,
