WESTERN CHAMPIONS Granville, first round 1-0 winners over Police National, will be gunning for another victory this afternoon when action resumes in the four-team 2007-08 Wray & Nephew National Premier League play-offs with two games at 3:30 p.m.

Granville will play host to Eastern champions St. George's, who had a first-round 0-0 draw with Sporting Central, at the Catherine Hall Stadium in Montego Bay, while Sporting Central, the central Jamaica champions, will entertain Kingston and St. Andrew champions Police National at Brancourt in Clarendon.

"We are fully focussed and ready for St. George's," said Granville's coach, Tracey Reid. "We spotted some weaknesses against Police National on Sunday and we have made the required adjustments so we are ready and raring to go."

However, Derrick Lewis, the manager of the St. George's team, does not plan to make things easy for Granville as, according to him, he plans to take at least a point out of the game.

Major disappointment

"We would certainly like to take all three points, but we will settle for a point," said Lewis. "However, any other result would be a major disappointment as we have a good team and we are expecting the players to deliver."

Granville's victory bid should revolve around prolific striker Jermaine Anderson, his strike partner Rodney Hines, top midfielder Jason Rose and key defender Dillon Thelwell, while St. George's will be seeking to counter through national invitee Donavan Davis, Damion Harwood, Omar Brissette and former national youth player Jermaine Taylor.

In the game at Brancourt, the Sporting Central team, which is still smarting from its missed penalty against St. George's, should start favourites against Police National, who are considered the weakest team in the play-offs.

"We will be aiming to make full use of our home advantage," said Sporting Central manager Brandon Murray. "The surface at St. George's did not suit our style but we should be at home here at Brancourt so we are expecting to win this game."

Despite not getting the respect of the pundits, the management of the Police National team is confident they are a good enough team to hold their own in the competition and will be gunning to demonstrate their full potential against Sporting Central.

"We made a few mistakes against Granville and it cost us the game, but that is now behind us," said Beau Rigabie, the manager of Police National. "We are looking for a positive result and we are confident we can get it."
