Auditor General asks PAC to study backlog of reports
published: Wednesday | May 23, 2007

Adrian Strachan, Auditor General. - File

Auditor General Adrian Strachan has suggested that the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament examine simultaneously a backlog of reports submitted by his office to that committee, when it completes its investigation into the Sandals Whitehouse affair.

At present, the 2004/2005 and2005/2006 annual reports from the Auditor General's office are before the committee for review.

Not the first time

According to Mr. Strachan, it was not the first time that reports from his office had remained before the committee for extended periods.

The PAC has been conducting an investigation into a US$43 (J$3 billion) million cost overrun at the Sandals Whitehouse hotel since September last year.

"I am hoping that the committee will be able to take a position in relation to the report on the Sandals matter so that they can quickly get to looking at those two reports," he told The Gleaner.

Mr. Strachan said several crucial issues were highlighted in his reports that the committee would have to take a position on and make recommendations.
