Kingston, Melbourne clash at Sabina
published: Saturday | May 19, 2007

This weekend's feature match in the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) Super Cup takes place at Sabina Park where hosts Kingston 'Tigers' tackle the Melbourne 'Kangaroos', starting at 10:00 a.m.

The match is expected to be a keenly contested one and first innings points for either team could be considered a victory.

Based on the two previous rounds, Melbourne's batsmen are in top form as Marlon Samuels scored an unbeaten double century against Trelawny in the first round, while Carlton Baugh Jr. and tailender Sheldon Smith struck centuries in the feature clash against the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) last week.

On both occasions Melbourne, who scored over 400, had to settle for first innings points.

The Kangaroos are also blessed with Yanick Elliott, Damion Henry and Damion Jacobs, who are capable batsmen at this level.

Likewise, Kingston secured first innings from Kensington last weekend and against St. Elizabeth in their opener.

Half centuries

Kingston batsmen Kerry Scott and Fabian Forbes have scored half centuries against St. Elizabeth in a lower order fight back.

Kingston, however, will be hoping their top batsmen - Chadwick Walton and Simon Jackson - both whom represented Jamaica at the Youth level, will come good.

Both teams have equally good bowling - Melbourne with Leon Bent, Sheldon Smith, Damion Jacobs and Samuels, while Kingston will depend on Forbes, Scott, Audley Sanson and Scott.
