'Smokin' Aces': Surprises, heart-stopping moments
published: Friday | May 11, 2007

Movie Title: Smokin' Aces

Rating: ★★★

Running Time: 1 hour 48 minutes

Bonus Features: Deleted and Extended Scenes, Outtakes, Cowboy Ending, The Line-Up, The Big Gun, Shoot 'Em Up, Stunts and Effects and Feature Commentary.

Who's In It: Ben Affleck, Andy Garcia, Ray Liotta, Jeremy Piven, Ryan Reynolds, Alicia Keys and Common.

What It's About: Smokin' Aces is a show filled with intense gun battles, surprises and heart-stopping moments. The show is based on a number of ruthless hit men and women who are lining up their big guns on one man, Buddy 'Aces' Israel, a Vegas showman who a mob boss has placed a million dollar bounty on because he became an FBI snitch.

There is little action to be found in the first half of the show, with the exception of snippets from police recollections as they retrace and probe the movements of the mob boss and suspects they believe can lead them to cracking the case. In the end, all the hit men and women locate where 'Ace' is hiding out and an extensive gun battle ensues, leaving a number of casualties for the gangsters and the cops to deal with.

Not a bad show; only problem was the constant attempt to sort of narrate, it and background information offered at every turn.

Long Story Short: If you love shows filled with guns, gangsters and explosive scenes, then this one is definitely for you.

The Reel Low-down: Not much in terms of a plot, but the action and suspense that unfold in the end will get you.
