Jetsetters B, Bridgeport kick off quarter-finals
published: Thursday | May 10, 2007

Robert Bailey, Freelance Writer

JETSETTERS B face Bridgeport in today's feature quarter-final of the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA) Western Union B League at the Leila Robinson Courts, starting at 6:45 p.m.

In the day's other quarter-finals, starting 5:45 p.m., Skibo B take on the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) and Eden Strikers tackle Ravens B.

The other quarter-final between Ocho Rios Magics and Waulgrovians C will be played at a later date. Jetsetters won Zone Two with 24 points and suffered their only loss to Waulgrovians C, who finished third in the zone with 18 points. Eden Strikers finished second with 21.

Rasheed Josephs, assistant coach of Jetsetters, is optimistic about his team's chances.

"We are pretty much confident as to the result the game will produce but the Bridgeport team is not one that we are going to underestimate," said Josephs."We are going to continue the same thing that we have been doing through the season, which isplay basic netball. I know Bridgeport is very good in attack. They have a very agile centre court player and they are also a very accurate shooting team.

Jetsetters will be depending on the likes of goal shooter Chrystal Henry, centre Karlene Vergo and goal defence Sandrine Linton, all of whom have played a pivotal part in their team's success this season. Bridgeport finished fourth in Zone One with 18 points - nine behind winners Skibo B .

Robert Nicholas, manager of the Bridgeport team, said he was anticipating a hard game from his opponents.

"The game will be a very tough game," said Nicholas. "We have something to prove as we are still a rookie team in the JNA league. "I am confident that we can beat Jetsetter they qualified as the number one team in their zone, but we are the underdog team and there will be less pressure on us."
