Mayor of Kingston, Desmond McKenzie, last weekend urged Jamaicans living in Boston, Massachusetts, and its environs to invest more of their savings in the country's development.

The Kingston Mayor called on Jamaicans in the area to join in the process of restoring the country's economic and social viability, by investing in projects which can encourage growth and social upliftment.

Facilitating investment ideas

Mr. Mckenzie said the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC), of which he is chairman, was prepared to facilitate any worthwhile investment ideas Jamaicans in the diaspora have for the city, by fast-tracking the necessary approvals.

He noted too that the KSAC owns real estate and is willing to work as partners with any Jamaican entity with viable proposals towards utilising those lands.

He gave as an example his vision of converting the Palisadoes strip into a multi-purpose cultural centre.

He said, however, that their contribution to national development would be much more substantial if, instead of focusing entirely on remittances to support relatives at home, they also focused on investing in worthwhile financial and capital projects.

Mayor McKenzie was the guest of honour and keynote speaker at the eighth annual dinner last Saturday for the Coalition of Jamaican Organisations in Boston, Massachusetts (Cojo-Mass).

He was awarded the keys to the City of Cambridge, Massachusetts, by Mayor Kenneth Reeves.
