For the latest addition to their menu, TGIF rolled out another set of duos, this time with a tropical flavour, 'Wild and Mild Grille'.

Regional marketing manager, Wendy Alleyne, explains that every two months, the popular eatery needs to "freshen things up, add some flavour and something to spice things up".

And so, last Thursday, TGIF's kitchen came alive as they rolled out Fiery Shrimp Kebabs, Chili-Grilled Chicken Breast, Blazing Grilled Pork Tenderloin, Flaming Beef Kebabs and Spicy Chilli Fish. All the dishes are served with coconut rice, string beans, oven-roasted tomatoes and mango salsa (except for the fish which is served with mango tartar sauce). This tropical fare is topped off with wild lemonade and the cherry on the top, unbelievable banana bread pudding.

Hit and Miss

Talk about flavour, then you're talking about the Blazing Grilled Pork Tenderloin. One word to describe this is blazing. One bite and spicy juices flow from each morsel, igniting your tastebuds. The Chili-Grilled Chicken Breast, however, was on the other side of the spectrum. This reporter found it to be a bit dry and bland. The Flaming Beef Kebabs are kept alive by the slices of pineapples. Unfortunately, neither the pineapples nor the mango salsa dip could save the fiery shrimp.

The Spicy Chili Fish served with mango tartar sauce was absolutely delicious. The side dishes for all the meals came across very well. The rice was very flavourful, and the oven-roasted tomatoes were great, as were the string beans, which were very crunchy.

The wild lemonade with a touch of vodka and Tropicana juice was extremely refreshing. Not overpowered by thevodka, it was a perfect, balanced blend with a refreshing result.

The best is usually saved for last and the banana bread pudding was in a class by itself. This literally took the cake (pun intended). A very large serving, it is absolutely heavenly. The warmth of the banana bread pudding combined with cold melting ice cream on top and just a dash of caramel, create the perfect marriage of flavour for the tastebuds.

Unbelievable and divinely heavenly is TGIF's banana bread pudding.
