published: Tuesday | May 8, 2007

Mitchie Bell (left), winner of the 'Hole-in-One' prize car at last year's Shipping Industry Benefit Golf Tournament, is expected to be among those competing in this year's renewal on July 29 at the Caymanas Golf & Country Club. Presenting him with the keys to his car at last year's awards ceremony is Roger Hinds, vice-president of the Shipping Association of Jamaica.

Fabulous trophies and numerous attractive prizes are being offered to amateur golfers who will be top performers at this year's renewal of the Shipping Industry Benefit Golf Tournament to take place the Caymanas Golf and Country Club on Sunday, July 29.

The event begins with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. and golfers are to be on their tees at 7:50 a.m. to ensure that play will be completed by noon.

Basic school benefits

The beneficiary of this year's tournament will again be the Marcus Garvey Basic School, located in Greenwich Town. The tournament will be played as an 18-hole Stableford 7/8 Handicap event in five categories - Overall, Ladies, Male Handicap 0-7, Male Handicap 8-15, and Male Handicap 16-24.

Participants can look forward to great tee gifts as well as trophies and attractive prizes for 'Nearest to the Pin' and Men/Ladies 'Longest Drive'. There is an entry fee of $3,500 that includes lunch.
