Seba United collected their first piece of silverware for the 2006-07 season yesterday afternoon when they blanked Salt Spring 4-0 in the final of the St. James Football Association's/Captain's Bakery Knockout competition at the Catherine Hall Stadium in Montego Bay.

In a game in which they enjoyed greater dominance throughout, the Seba United team got their goals through Jeremy Bucknor (2), Norman Foster and regular goalkeeper Alrick Henry.

"Everything basically went right for us today," said Delroy Ellis who was quite solid in the heart of the Seba United defence. "We came here for the title because we know that we are the best team in St. James football at this time."

Within a minute of the start of the game, Seba United should have taken the lead when an overlapping Ellis broke free but his well-struck shot was parried wide by the diving goalkeeper, Lyndel Clarke.

Powerful grounder

After blunting a Salt Spring counter-attack in the 14th minute when the speedy Vinroy Allen was dispossessed inside the goal area, Seba struck in the 18th minute. A dribbling Foster twisted and turned around defenders before firing a powerful grounder, making the score 1-0.

On the stroke of half-time, Salt Spring just missed drawing level when Omar Clarke got away before the goal but instead of shooting, he chose to make a pass which turned out to be wayward. The half ended without any further goals.

In second half-play it was all one-way traffic for Seba United as Salt Spring buckled under non-stop pressure after giving up a second goal in the 60th minute. Bucknor powered his way through the defence and with the goalkeeper at his mercy, fired in easily to make the score 2-0.

In the 61st minute, Seba were again on target when the wily Glenroy Miller dropped a perfect pass into the crowded goal area and after several blocked shots on goal, Henry's deflected effort flew into the roof of the net, making the score 3-0.

With Seba all over Salt Spring, the hard-working Bucknor struck again in the 70th minute. Another dazzling dribble took apart the Salt Spring defence and he completed his solo effort by tucking the ball past the goalkeeper, making the final score 4-0.
