Man who killed wife gets May court date
published: Monday | May 7, 2007

Michael Laoe, 40, battery technician of a Kingston 11 address who is charged with the murder of his wife Charmaine, is to return to the Home Circuit Court on May 25.

Charmaine died after being doused with acid in June 2005.

Laoe appeared in the Home Circuit Court Friday. He was offered bail in the sum of $650,000 with a surety.

He was first charged with aiding and abetting, conspiracy and assault occasioning grievous bodily harm but after his wife died weeks later after the acid attack, he was charged with murder.

The allegations are that Laoe conspired with another man to throw acid on his wife. About8.30 a.m. on June 10, 2005, the deceased was on her way to work at the Constant Spring Tax Office, when on reaching the gate of her workplace, she was approached by a man who doused her with acid. Onlookers chased the attacker and beat him to death.

The complainant suffered third degree burns to more than 40 per cent of her body and died weeks later. Laoe was subsequently arrested and charged.
