Gareth Manning, Gleaner WriterOne of the men wanted for the 2005 gruesome murder of 10-year-old Sasha-Kaye Brown and three other family members at their Barnes Avenue home in south-west St. Andrew has been killed by the police.
The dead man has been identified as Marlon Mattie, a member of the Stinger gang.
Superintendent Delroy Hewitt, commanding officer for Kingston Western, said the police received information that there were several armed men attending a wake in Arnett Gardens for another wanted man, Christopher Williams, otherwise known 'Cheese Trix'. Williams was also gunned down by the police two months ago on the Mandela Highway.
Pre-dawn firefight
According to Supt. Hewitt, a joint military team went into the area just after three o'clock Sunday morning and was greeted by a barrage of gunfire.
"The fire was returned and one man was shot and injured. He was taken to KPH (Kingston Public Hospital) where he was pronounced dead," Supt. Hewitt said.
Two other men were also arrested during the operation. One man was arrested on a charge of shooting, while another 17-year-old was charged with illegal possession of a firearm.
Two assault rifles were also seized and a total of 22 rounds of ammunition and two magazines recovered.
On October 5, 2005, thugs firebombed the house with Gerald Brown, wife Dorcas, daughter Michelle and 10-year-old granddaughter Sasha-Kaye inside. The act was a reprisal for the shooting of a man in the area.
