Robert Bailey, Freelance WriterRavens 'B' advanced to the quarter-finals of the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA)/Western Union B League, following their 21-18 victory over Bridgeport on Saturday at the Leila Robinson Courts.
Ravens are now in second on 18 points, three behind leaders Skibo 'B'.
Christopher Smart, coach of Ravens, said he was delighted with his team's victory.
"I have to say congratulations to my girls today," Smart said. " I think we gave up too many turnovers and put ourselves under too much pressure early, but in the last quarter we organised ourselves and took charge of the quarter and won the game by three goals.
"We are now looking to finish in the top two in our zone so that we can play an easier team in the quarter-finals."
Full strength
Smart added: "We haven't played our full strength team as yet because some of our players are preparing for exams. Whenever our full team comes together we should be able to win this competition," Smart said.
Robert Nicholas, manager of Bridgeport, said they were faced with a difficult task.
"The game was a very tough one and the girls were a bit drained," Nicholas said.
The first half was keenly contested by both teams, with Bridgeport holding a 13-12 lead at the half-time break.
However, Ravens stepped up their defence in the third period to end the quarter with a 17-16 lead.
Tamika Douglas led the way for Ravens 'B' with 13 goals and received good support from Alicia Powell with eight.
Andrea Dawkins 12 and Yanique Levy six goals were the scorers for Bridgeport.
