These wenches are surely not to be messed around with. -ContributedTesi Johnson, Gleaner Writer
Dolphin Cove Ocho Rios, already the Caribbean's largest marine attraction, has been expanded and rebranded 'Dolphin Cove at Treasure Reef'.
Treasure Reef is the newest addition to the original complement of Dolphin Cove activities and attractions. It is a mini replica of Port Royal where patrons can interact with the friendly stingrays and sharks, enjoy the shenanigans of the 'pirates' on property, shop for 'treasures' in the Little Port Royal pirate's village and bask on a beach, among other things.
Patrons will quickly learn that the sharks and stingrays are just as amiable as the dolphins. One may hold and pet the amazingly friendly stingrays (barbs removed), which can even perform their own brand of tricks, and even swim with the sharks.
An entertaining 'shark show' is also a part of the package, as the shark-handlers recite their experiences with the sharks in a sing-song manner.
Swimming with the sharks
You may opt to have your own encounter with the sharks and swim, hold and feed them. The 'shark' package includes all the activities of the Treasure Reef entrance package and guests are allowed to pet, feed, hold and snorkel with the sharks.
After being briefed on safety, guests, under the careful supervision of the handlers, will be given their own sharks to hold, feed and have their picture taken. After thisamazing experience, your guide will provide you with snorkelling gear to snorkel among the exciting sharks.
Walk the plank
While this all happens, Captains Jack and Sparrow, the resident pirates might just be hurling threats to make you walk the plank. Fiercely donning their rubber swords, they promise all deviants a trod down the plank, where the sharks swim below. However, these sharks are friendly. They don't eat people! Apparently the pirates didn't think of that!
The Treasure Reef entrance to the park also gives patrons access to 1,500 feet of white-sand beach where, apart from swimming, they may go glass bottom kayaking, snorkelling and enjoy mini boat rides.
The affable pirate is held hostage by his feisty wenches at Dolphin Cove Treasure Reef. The shenanigans of the pirates and wenches are part of the attraction at the newly added Treasure Reef at Dolphin Cove, Ocho Rios, St. Ann. -Contributed
