Security guard freed of murder charge
published: Tuesday | May 1, 2007

A security guard who was accused of murdering 48-year-old security guard Clinton Lecky has been freed because the Crown could not rely on the photocopy of an alleged cautioned statement.

Herald Webley, 32, security guard employed to Guardsman Ltd. at the time of the incident in August 1999, was freed of the murder charge.

Justice Paulette Williams commended attorney-at-law Valerie Neita-Robertson for the manner in which she conducted Webley's defence.

Allegedly hit in the head

The Crown alleged at the trial in the Home Circuit Court that Leckey died on August 16, 1999, after he was allegedly hit in the head the night before. Lecky and other security guards, including the accused, were on duty at an office in Papine, St. Andrew, at the time of the incident.
