The Editor, Sir:
The recent assignment of the National Housing (NHT) Trust's Morris Meadows Scheme of 46 units is very disappointing. Judging from the selection process, it is unlikely that NHT considered any person below 40 years old. What is most disturbing is that the NHT selected a 62-year-old person for a house.
I am not saying that person does not deserve that house. However, I wonder what is the criteria the NHT is using to select persons, because if a person has to wait until they are 40 years old to own a home, then it is no wonder that there is brain drain in the country, as young people don't seem to have a future, not in worthy jobs or owning a house.
It is even more sad that after rejecting individuals, which I suspect would be in the hundreds, the NHT implies that all the applicants rejected should apply for a refund of their money. I find that to be insulting to the applicants. The NHT, before publishing the names of successful applicants, should have refunds for all the persons not considered available by the latest April 20, with the nine per cent interest.
I am, etc.,
