Ray Hadeed dies at 86
published: Wednesday | April 25, 2007

Hadeed

Noted manufacturing executive Ray Hadeed has died. He died yesterday morning following a long illness. He was 86.

"Mr. Hadeed was one of the trailblazers of the manufacturing sector who played a major role in the industrialisation programme which dominated the significant levels of economic growth experienced in the 1950s and 1960s," said the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP). "As president of the Jamaica Manufacturers' Association, he provided strong leadership to the sector and was effective in his representations to successive governments for measures to strengthen and expand the sector."

The JLP, in a statement, expressed condolences to Mr. Hadeed's son Russell, his two daughters, and other members of his family.

Mr. Hadeed had been president of Serv-Wel since 1960. He was also executive chairman of General Consultants and Insurance Brokers Ltd; R.E.H. Investment Ltd.; Rosa Investment Ltd.; Hadeed Holdings Ltd.; and Financial Investment Management Services Ltd.

Born in Syria

Born in Syria on February 21, 1921, he was the son of Elias Hadeed, a farmer, and Sophia. He was educated at Omar High School and was married to Rose Hannon, who predeceased him.

"Jamaica will long be indebted to this pioneer who made Jamaica his home and contributed so much to its development," the JLP said.
