Seba United qualified for the finals of the 2007 St. James FA/Captain's Bakery Knock Out football competition on Sunday afternoon when a four-timer by Ricardo Geddes gave them a big 4-2 win over Wadadah in their semi-final clash at the Catherine Hall Stadium, in Montego Bay.
Curtis Palmer netted a double for Wadadah.
"Seba came out and played to instructions and basically proved that we are the best team in St. James," said Seba United's Peruvian coach Danielo Barrigga. "The only disappointment is that we allowed Wadadah to score the two goals they got."
Seba United's opponent in the final will be Salt Spring, which won the first semi-final 3-2 over Granville, a victory which also earned them as slot in Red Stripe KO competition as the St. James parish representative.
In a game during which Wadadah's declining fortunes were vulgarly exposed, Seba took the lead in the 14th minute when Geddes ran away from three chasing defenders and fired past the advancing goalkeeper, Gavin Barrett, making the score 1-0.
Wadadah bounced back against the run of play in the 35th minute when the alert Curtis Palmer fired home from a melee, making the score 1-1.
However, Seba regained the lead a minute later when Geddes was again on target, nodding home a cross from the left flank, making the half-time score 2-1.
Down into second half play, Seba United continued to dominate and were rewarded in the 65th minute when Geddes capitalised on a mix-up in the Wadadah defence and completed his hat-trick with a well-placed grounder, making the score 3-1.
With Wadadah injecting striker Markino Gillings in the attack to give it more punch, they pulled themselves back into the game in the 70th minute when Palmer took control of a pass inside the goal area, turned sweetly and fired in of the right-upright, making the score 3-2.
However, as they did earlier, Seba struck back in the 78th minute when Theodore Whitmore danced between several players and sent Geddes free with a superb pass. He calmly controlled and placed his shot out of the reach of the goalkeeper, making the final score 4-2.
"Geddes showed what can happen when you maintain your composure before the goal," said coach Barrigga. "He followed the play, got into goalscoring positions and just did what was expected of him."
