Constituency spending
published: Tuesday | April 10, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

Ministers Bobby Pickersgill and Richard Azan reported that sums totalling $128.25 million dollars were spent in my constituency of North East St. Andrew. I say without fear of contradiction that I had nothing to do with the spending of that money and how and where it was spent. I did not request the monies, participated in any contract, or had anything to do with the work. I am aware that work was carried out in the Barbican Square area, but I was neither invited to the contract signing nor opening or closing ceremonies, which show how I am treated by the National Works Agency.

No contract

In addition, I am aware that genetically connected contractors were given work to fix gullies and gully banks. To the best of my knowledge, my two councillors, Joy Cotterel and Winston Ennis, were asked to provide a few labourers who got some work but I had no direct contact or negotiation with any of the contractors. The only contact made with my office was for a $1 million drain-cleaning contract for the 2006 hurricane season, which I directed to my councillors and for which I had no direct responsibility.

In Parliament, I asked Ministers Pickersgill and Azan for a breakdown of where the money was spent, as I feel sure that the taxpayersdid not get value for money.

I am, etc.,

DELROY CHUCK MP

NE St. Andrew
