Night noise rattles Industry Village
published: Tuesday | April 10, 2007

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I have sent the following letter to Commissioner of Police Lucius A. Thomas:

Dear Commissioner,

Re: Night Noise in Industry Village: Further to my letters of the 28th December 2006, 24th January and 3rd February 2007, I write to you once again to express my disgust at the police's inability to control the sound systems in my area.

This morning at 5:00, as I write, the sound system rattles my house for the second night running, Thursday and tonight Friday/Saturday morning (Good Friday no less) and expected again for the usual Saturday night event.

Futile calls

Calls to both Gordon Town Police Station and the Police Hotline as usual have proven futile. I therefore state for the record for all Jamaica to know, as hopefully this will be published, that by the evidence so far, I conclude that the Jamaica Constabulary Force has no intention of addressing the issue of night noise and is a de facto accomplice in perpetuating the crime that is committed against Jamaicans every night.

The hypocrisy and insult to the Jamaican people of this crime is that the Jamaica Constabulary Force website actually has a link to the Noise Abatement Act.

The fact that this sound problem in the community of Industry Village has been going on every Thursday and Saturday for five months is an indictment on your inability or unwillingness to truly address crime in this country.

I am, etc.,
