Hanover man accused of killing stepmother
published: Tuesday | April 3, 2007

Mark Titus, Freelance Writer

WESTERN BUREAU:

She nurtured him as a child - fed, clothed and cared for him. Today she is dead - allegedly a victim of his cruelty.

The quiet farming community of Flamstead, in Hanover, is now in mourning following the brutal murder of 83-year-old Mavis Davis, allegedly by her stepson on Saturday.

"A she raise Terry from him born, him no know no mother, but she," said a close friend of the deceased, who only gave her name as 'Sister'.

"Mi still can't believe say Terry kill Mavis."

'Sister' described Miss Davis as a kindhearted human being who loved children, an not having a child of her own, contributed to the development of many.

Rohan 'Terry' Davis has since been taken into police custody, pending investigations.

Terry, who is said to be the son of Miss Mavis' late husband, was believed to be of unsound mind and had reportedly threatened her life on a number of occasions. It is alleged that the incident stemmed from an ongoing dispute over family land.

"She come up a mi house the other day and tell mi say him threatenher, say him a go chop off her head, but she never report it to the police," Sister added.

Beaten to death

According to reports from the Constabulary Communication Network, about 11 a.m. Saturday, the goldenager and Terry were involved in a dispute when the latter used a piece of iron to beat the elderly woman. She was taken to the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Lester Brooks, brother of the deceased, said his sister with whom he shared a very close relationship, did not complain of having problems with the accused.

But according to Sister, Miss Mavis was not the type of person who would have complained about differences with her stepson because of the love she had for him.
