Cops still probing Mountain View shootings
published: Wednesday | March 28, 2007

The Half-Way Tree Central Investigating Branch (CIB) was yesterday still following leads into the shooting death of two men off Mountain View Avenue, Kingston 3, on Sunday afternoon.

Dead are Raphael Thomas, 21, and Delroy Thomas, 26, who are of no relation. The men were of McIntosh Drive, known as Top Range, in the Mountain View area.

Police reports are that, about 12:45 p.m., the two men were on McIntosh Drive when a grey Toyota Corolla motor car drove up. Occupants in the vehicle pulled guns and opened fire hitting the men. The police were summoned and the injured men were taken to the University Hospital of the West Indies where they were pronounced dead.

While the Half-Way Tree CIB is yet to establish a motive, police have stated that Delroy Thomas, an employee of a fast-food restaurant, was the target of the gunmen.

"We (police) are understanding that Delroy might have been involved in a shooting that occurred sometime last year," said a police officer involved in the investigation. "Raphael Thomas might have been at the wrong place at the wrong time."

Meanwhile, Horace Levy, senior member of the Peace Management Initiative, which tries to create a common ground among the community's citizens, said he was saddened to hear of the killings.

"We will definitely be checking out the shootings to understand what happened," said Mr. Levy.
