World watching
published: Tuesday | March 27, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

I must use this opportunity to express condolences to the people of Pakistan and the family of their cricket team's coach Bob Woolmer. This is certainly a crisis and an opportunity all rolled into one. It is a crisis for the Pakistani team, Woolmer's family, the international cricket fraternity and Jamaica. It is an opportunity for the Jamaican police to show the world good police work. This is also an opportunity for the game and business of cricket and the seamier side of this once gentleman's game to be understood, exposed and corrected. For Jamaica, we are at the crease, facing some 90 mph balls, the world is watching and grading us. Jamaica cannot afford to be out for a duck.

I am, etc.,
