UWI revellers had a non-stop vibe as they made their way around Ring Road for their Carnival Road March last Saturday at UWI, Mona campus.

With the theme of 'exotic locations', the costumes of the various halls looked colourful, sexy and creative.

After 1:00 p.m., the trucks made their way to Mary Seacole Hall, which was the starting point of the march.

Rex Nettleford Hall, under a Mexican theme, was the first set of revellers out as 'Los Matadors'.

Costume decorations

The costume was a silver bikini top and bottom decorated with beads and the bottom was covered with a mesh-like skirt in green and red.

Attached to their arms were strips of sheer material in green and red that came around to the back of the costume. The costume looked lovely with the males in straw hats and the Queen had a huge red and green piece attached to her, while the king had a large hat which he wore at the back of his head.

Next on the scene was Preston Hall as 'Brazil', their costume was a green and gold bikini top and bottom with green leaves attached as the arms and legs, with a headpiece also made of leaves.

Chansea, which was sponsored by THE STAR, was 'Africa'. They looked wild in leopard print bikinis

Wearing headpieces, body art paint was used to carry off the theme.

Irvine Hall didn't have a costume this year.

An addition to this year's march was a group from Red Stripe, one of the carnival's title sponsors.

'Rome' was Red Stripe's theme and revellers wore red bikini tops and red and gold skirts.

Another new group was from Island Mas, who wore yellow T-shirts. Finally the 'off-campus' students represented Hawaii in floral bikini tops and a hula skirt.

There were four trucks with music from Base Xcess, Bloodline, Kurt Riley, Arif Cooper and GCT. The selectors had the crowd going with hit soca songs like Allison Hinds Roll It, Nookie Tonight, Follow the Leader, Bonny and Clyde, Max it up and more. There was also a lot of dancehall played as the selectors got forwards from the crowd for Gal a Run Dem Head, Belly Nuh Bang, King of the Dancehall and more.

While the revellers got off to a late start, they carried on through a strong downpour. Despite the rain, they had fun, jumping and dancing.

Taylor Hall revellers finally came an hour or so after the start as 'Ancient Greece', decked out in blue, brown and white.

Bystanders gathered

As the revellers reached the judging point on the lawns of the library, more bystanders gathered to watch the happenings.

The most organised groups at the judging points were Rex and Taylor Hall.

Rex Hall made their King and Queen enter first and did a parade accompanied by their 'court', then the rest of the revellers ran on to Mad Bull Fever.

Taylor Hall made a verbal presentation explaining the culture of the Greeks as they entered. They were outrageous as usual, displaying breathtaking acrobatics.

By the time they finished, some revellers left tired. While some left to change for the after party.

By 7:00 p.m., the group finally reached their final destination - the Student's Union for a massive party, which lasted till the wee hours of the morning.
