IAAF set to name hosts
published: Monday | March 26, 2007

MOMBASA, Kenya (Reuters)

The host cities for the 2011 and 2013 World Championships will be named tomorrow, International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) officials said yesterday.

Brisbane in Australia, Daegu in Korea and Moscow are bidding for the 2011 tournament, and Barcelona for the 2013 event along with the two cities that lose their bid for the 2011 event, the world governing body's general secretary Pierre Weiss told reporters on the first day of a three-day IAAF council.

The council also ordered Bahrain to take action against Tarek Mubarak Salem Taher, formerly Dennis Kipkurui Sang of Kenya, for cheating on his age at the 2005 World Youth Championships in Marrakech, Morocco.

"We expect the Bahrain federation to give him a hearing and take appropriate action against him, but the IAAF reserves the right to take sterner action if their federation's action is found inappropriate," said Weiss.

Weiss said the IAAF cleared Ali Belal Mansour, formerly John Kipkurui Yego, of cheating but investigations on Khamis Aadam Ismael, formerly Hosea Kiplagat Kosgei, are going on. Both are Kenyan-born athletes who migrated to Bahrain to seek better training facilities and incentives.

Weiss said the IAAF treats age cheating like doping offences and is keen on ensuring very stern action is taken against offenders.
