August Town's fairly tale run in the Red Stripe Champions Cup came to an end when they were clipped 1-0 by Boys' Town in the first of two semi-finals at the Harbour View Mini Stadium last night.
In-form striker Denzil Watson netted the important goal in the 69th minute for the 'Red Brigade', who had lost their last two encounters to August Town this season.
The hard-working Watson scored his third goal for the team in as many games by running on to a through ball which saw him outsprint his defender, round goalkeeper Devon Haughton and then fire into the back of an empty net.
Boys' Town coach Andrew Price was not only pleased with his team's effort, but happy to be in a second consecutive final.
"We came out here and played a very disciplined and tactical game and we deserve to be in the final," Price remarked. "We beat them when we needed it the most, we're into a second final for the season, hopefully, we will be lucky this time around."
Price added: "This is our last chance for any silverware this season and we want to do it in the Red Stripe Champions Cup."
August Town will be cursing their luck as they certainly had their chances to get on the scoresheet. A cracking shot from Zico Herrera in the 41st minute looked to be goal-bound, but after taking a deflection, it trickled harmlessly across the goal and behind Ross Burton, who was rooted on the goal-line.
Crumbie saves the day
Then it was Daniel Shaw's turn to attempt to pull them level in the 71st minute, but his free kick 20 yards away from goal was palmed to safety at full stretch by Boys' Town custodian Philmore Crumbie.
"Anybody would be disappointed, we have played so well for such a long while and it is heartbreaking to be knocked out at this stage," lamented August Town's coach, Hugh McCarthy.
"We turned the ball over too many times, we never got into a rhythm and we just played far below our usual standard."
Portmore United and defending champions Tivoli Gardens were locked at nil-all at press time in last night's late semi-final.
