Garfield Saulas with wife Shawna and son Kristoff. Marketing specialist, 34-year-old Garfield Saulas, who spends his working hours schmoozing hoteliers and other corporate clients on the north coast, sheds his jacket and tie for a cool T-shirt and gardening gloves when he is at home in Angels Estate, St. Catherine.
Garfield, who has been married for the last five years to banker Shawna Saulas, and who is the father of two-year-old Kristoff, claims top billing for his work in the kitchen as well as the garden. So good is he that Shawna has been willing to share his talents with her bank and other organisations which need a caterer.
"He is a very good chef, preparing all kinds of foods, including gourmet cooking. He reads books on cooking. At home, he does all the breakfast dishes and also prepares the meals on Sundays," she states, adding that, invariably, friends find their way to the home to share the Sunday evening meal.
The couple, both members of Faith Missionary church, met at this organisation where Garfield?s talents caught Shawna?s eye.
His homemaking abilities, she says, were definitely a part of her decision to marry him. "It showed he would be helping around the home," she explains.
So helpful is Garfield, that Shawna spends all her time at home caring for son Kristoff and admiring Garfield?s handiwork. Her husband is also fond of interior designs and arranges the look of their home to his liking.
A former cabinetmaker during a brief period in his life, Garfield Saulas has also made several items of furniture greatly loved by his wife. The latest is a china cabinet which graces the living room. This was completed on Shawna?s last birthday.
The garden is also his territory and the lush lawn and plants come in for daily care and frequent tweakings. A garden of succulents to the side of their small property is enhanced by a white bench and swinging gate made by Garfield as well.
" We recently moved here and every one is fascinated by the garden," Shawna comments.
The couple travel far and wide for plants.
According to Garfield, cooking, gardening and interior decorating are things he loves to do. "I was taught as a little boy how to do things for myself."
One of his recent projects was the painting of their home in Abigail yellow and the entrance gate in green.
Where the home is concerned, Garfield loves a new idea and, when he gets one, he moves dextrously to execute.
