No prayer at CWC opening
published: Sunday | March 18, 2007

THE EDITOR, Sir:

The programme at the opening ceremony of the Cricket World Cup was spectacular. Believe me I was very proud. I felt so good, to be a Jamaican. But I was disappointed that we did not publicly ask God for His blessings on the event. We believe in God, it is a part of our culture. Our way of life should not offend anyone, if we are presenting it to the world, it is just the way it is. People should respect that. Is that what we were doing ? trying not to offend any one with an opening prayer?

Sir, I make no apologies. It was a really great production, but we really need to remember that had it not been for God?s grace, this would never have taken place. Let us as a nation, not ?bowl? Him out, because He is the captain of our cricket team in the game called LIFE.

I am, etc.,
