published: Sunday | March 18, 2007

Mandeville:

A policewoman was killed in a motor vehicle accident on the Porus main road at approximately 5.45 p.m. on Friday.

Constable Sherine Price-Parchment, 32 years old, attached to the Mandeville Police Station bicycle patrol, was involved in an accident with two of her colleagues. According to an eyewitness, the police car in which the woman constable along with two other policemen were traveling was headed towards Mandeville on a wet section of the Hampton and Porus main road intersection when the vehicle picked up a skid and slammed into a utility pole.

The eyewitness, who approached the vehicle, said that Constable Price-Parchment was unconscious while the other two policemen, Jason Ricketts the driver, and Henriques Chambers were unable to move. They were rushed to the Mandeville Regional Hospital where Price-Parchment died and Chambers transferred to the Kingston Public Hospital in serious condition.

Dear friend to everyone

A large crowd which included family members gathered at the Mandeville Hospital, with several persons crying openly as news of the passing of the constable spread across the parish, leaving everyone in stunned disbelief.

Constable Albert Simpson, one of the persons who removed the deceased from the battered police vehicle, described her as a dear friend to everyone with whom she came into contact. Her husband, Azan Parchment, clutched their two-year-old son, weeping uncontrollably as family members tried to console him.

Mr. Ian Phillips of the Mandeville Resident Magistrate?s Court, who was also at the hospital, told The Sunday Gleaner that Sherine Price-Parchment?s discipline and love for the people she served was unmatched. ?Her smile was always the first thing to greet you no matter the occasion,? he said.

Taxi operator Delroy ?Lexus? Williams, said Constable Price-Parchment was his favourite police personnel as she always had a word of encouragement and a smile.

Constable Price -Parchment is the third police officer to die in as many years in a traffic accident on the Porus to Mandeville main road.
