WORLD JUNIOR sprint relay gold medallist Kerron Stewart heads a list of 12 Jamaicans down to compete at this weekend's NCAA Division One Indoor Track and Field Champion-ships set for the Randall Tyson Track Centre at the University of Arkansas.Stewart, of Auburn University and formerly of St. Jago, is the number one ranked in the sprints, 60m and 200m, with times of 7.14 and 22.46 respectively. The latter is the fastest time in the world this year.
Four other Jamaicans have qualified for the sprint double - freshman Samantha Henry of Louisiana State University (LSU), formerly of The Queens' School, with 7.29 and 23.42, Tracey Ann-Rowe of Auburn (formerly of Holmwood Tech.) 7.30 and 23.35 and Simone Facey of Auburn (formerly of Vere Tech) 7.31 and 23.25.
Nadine Palmer of the University of Florida (Holmwood Tech) will run in the 200m only and she qualified with a time of 23.42.
Distinction
Nickiesha Wilson of LSU (formerly of Alpha Academy) has the distinction of earning spots in both the 60m metres hurdles (8.16) and the 400m flat (52.82).
Two female Jamaican athletes qualified in the field events as Andrea Linton of LSU (Mount Alvernia and St. Jago) will compete in the triple jump (13.21) and Peaches Roach of the University of Iowa (Alpha Academy) will tackle the high jump after posting a qualifying height of 1.83m.
The four Jamaican men who qualified include Ricardo Chambers of Florida State University (Christiana High) who is the top man in the 400m with a best of 46.05, Shaun Smith of Oral Roberts University (Christiana High) who heads the 800m qualifiers with a good 1.47.80, Sheldon Leith of the University of Oklahoma (Calabar) who will run in the 60m hurdles after posting 7.79 and University of Arkansas freshman Alain Bailey (Kingston College) who will compete in the long jump after posting a qualifying leap of 7.72m.
