Peace Month observance began yesterday with a church service held at the Providence Methodist Church, St. Andrew.
'No Violence, Jus' Bat for Peace' is the ICC Cricket World Cup-inspired theme for the month-long campaign.
"We have to do better than we have been doing with one another," said Professor Barry Chevannes, chairman of the VPA.
He added: "We have to establish a sense of forgiveness and solve our differences peacefully and not murder one another, taking life that none of us can give.
"So, we are calling on the entire population to join us and bat for peace," he said.
In his remarks, Morin Seymour, chairman of PALS, urged Jamaicans to think of ways they can influence a peaceful society. More than 210 persons have been killed since the start of the year.
The Peace Day activities will coincide with the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 warm-up games in Jamaica. Selected schools will parade in the colours of the 16 teams that will be participating in the championship.
