PREMIER LEAGUE teams Portmore United, August Town, Waterhouse, Wadadah and Village all scored first-leg wins in the second round of the All-Island Red Stripe Champions Cup knockout yesterday.

St. Catherine's Portmore United trampled Kingston and St. Andrew representative Duhaney Park 5-0 at the Ferdie Neita Park and virtually sealed their spot in the quarter-final round.

A double strike from Anthony Bennett (24th, 33rd) was complemented by Dwayne Ford (eighth), Carlington Smith (66th) and Oniel McDonald (87th).

Premier League champions Waterhouse had to come from behind to beat Seba of St. James 2-1. Seian McNish opened the scoring for Seba in the 14th minute before Robert Robinson struck twice in the 45th and 71st minutes.

At the Elliston Wakeland Centre, Luke Tate, in the 24th minute, and Leon Irving's 90th-minute strike gave Village a comfortable 2-0 win of Star Cosmos of St. Mary.

St. James' Wadadah edged Montpelier of Hanover 2-1 courtesy of goals from Markino Gillings and Sion Torpe.

Over at the UWI Bowl, a 77th-minute header from David Laylor gave August Town a deserved 1-0 win over Reno of Westmoreland in a game they should have won by a wider margin.

Daniel Shaw corner

Veteran defender Laylor met a Daniel Shaw corner with a glancing header that flew past goalkeeper Kenrick Blair.

August Town dominated a listless Reno outfit and should have scored a couple more chances and might pay the price next week in the return leg.

Winning coach Hugh McCarthy was not satisfied with his team's missed chances which set up a tense second leg in Frome.

Said McCarthy: "We totally dominated this game and we should have won by a wider margin. We got relaxed too easily. It is very sad.

"The second leg will be tough. We should have scored three or four goals and then the second leg would be easier. Going down there with a 1-0 margin is not a winning margin at all," he said.

Reno's Aaron Lawrence, deputising for Wendell Downswell who is away on international duties with the Reggae Boyz, said his team did not turn up at all.

"Today we didn't give it our best shot and didn't play the football that we supposed to play," Lawrence said.
