The ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 volunteers in the nine host venues are just about ready to play their role in the cricketing showpiece.
The CWC Vibes, as the cadre of volunteers is known, will perform a wide range of duties during the event and are now concluding specialised training in keeping with their respective assignments during the two-month tournament.
Volunteer programme manager, Peter McIntosh, said that preparing the corps of volunteers has required "a combined effort of 20 master trainers and approximately 120 trainers throughout the Caribbean".
He added: "It has been a remarkable accomplishment. More than 4,500 volunteers have participated in the training which was extremely well received. In addition, our prime goal of energising the CWC Vibes team has clearly been achieved," he noted.
Enthusiastic volunteers
Citing feedback from the training in St. Kitts & Nevis, McIntosh disclosed that volunteers there were so enthusiastic that they "did not want to leave" and "were looking forward to their next session".
"We have a highly motivated team of volunteers who are raring to go and eager to put the CWC VIBES catch phase into practice - deliver a spectacular spectator experience - for the best Cricket World Cup ever!"
As the Caribbean marks the two-week countdown to CWC warm-ups, the next milestone for the CWC VIBES will be the kitting-out days in the respective host venues. That's when each volunteer receives the smart, distinctive uniform that will ensure they stand out among the crowds on match day.
"It has been a remarkable accomplishment.
