Unbeaten T&T through to KFC final
published: Friday | February 16, 2007

KINGSTOWN, St Vincent (CMC):

TRINIDAD AND Tobago secured a place in the KFC Cup final with a hard-fought five-wicket semi-final win over Guyana, at the Arnos Vale Sports Complex ,yesterday.

Unbeaten Trinidad and To-bago, helped by disciplined bowling and backed up a good fielding effort, restricted Guyana to a modest 114 in 38 overs and achieved a revised target of 109 in 27.2 overs for the loss of five wickets with 14.4 overs remaining.

Broke backbone

Fast bowler, Mervyn Dillon, recalled to the Trinidad and Tobago line-up after losing his place following the opening match, broke the backbone of Guyana's batting with an impressive return of four for 35 from 10 overs on a pitch that was not altogether perfect for batting.

And when Trinidad and Tobago were put under pressure and reduced to 64 for five, left-hander, Sherwin Ganga, and all-rounder, Rayad Emrit, guided them to safety with an unbroken sixth-wicket partnership of 46.

Emrit scored 30 off 27 balls to follow up a commendable spell with the ball, in which he took one for 28 from 10 overs to win the Man-of-the-Match award.

Ganga made an unbeaten 24 and in tandem with Emrit cancelled out the threat of Guyana fast bowlers Esuan Crandon and Reon King, who shared the five wickets to fall.

Crandon finished with three for 29, while King claimed two for 39.

Trinidad and Tobago will meet the winner of today's second semi-final between The Windward Islands and Barbados.
