FORMER CHAMPIONS, Tivoli Gardens, arrested the progress of a surging Naggo Head, turning back the St. Catherine team 3-1 in Wray and Nephew National Premier League action at the Edward Seaga Stadium, yesterday.
Coming off back-to-back wins for the first time this season, relegation-threatened Naggo Head seemed to be finding their feet. However, the West Kingston team put the ambitious visitors on the back foot early when striker Christopher Nicholas struck in the 14th minute.
Naggo Head began the second half in positive fashion and created a couple of opportunities to pull level. In-form striker Denton Shedden nearly did, but his 52nd-minute header, from a Mark Newsome cross, which swung across goal, did not have enough power to beat Tivoli custodian, Leon Gordon.
Rued missed oportunities
Another chance fell to Patrick Edmonson, but his close-range effort was blocked by keeper Gordon, and with the goal at mercy after the ball rebounded for a follow-up attempt, he then blasted it into orbit.
Naggo Head would rue their missed opportunities.
In the 74th minute, Tivoli captain, Fabian Davis, who came off the bench, whipped a free kick over the wall and past Naggo Head custodian, Jacomena Barrett. Sheldon Palmer then put the game out of reach five minutes later.
Palmer turned his defender around before launching a fierce left-foot drive into the far right-hand corner of the goal, leaving 'keeper Barrett stumped standing in the centre of goal. Shedden consolation effort in the 82nd minute was too little, too late.
"We just did not put away our opportunities, our finishing let us down today," said Naggo Head coach, Wayne Fairclough.
