published: Friday | February 16, 2007

Ainsworth 'Big A' Higgins. - Contributed

Ainsworth 'Big A' Higgins has been with IRIE FM from the radio station's beginning and he has proven to be one of the most versatile personalities in the popular music radio market.

There is nothing like getting the week off with some uplifting music which he provides each Sunday morning. Things change once the week progresses , but he still manages to keep listeners entertained.

The Gleaner: How did you get started in the media?

Big A: I was given the opportunity by Clyde McKenzie when IRIE FM started.

G: What is your dream job?

Big A: To own a successful media or production house.

G: What is your best moment working in the media?

Big A: When people are touched with the music I play and bombard me with calls expressing appreciation.

G: Have you been faced with negative remarks?

Big A: Sure! Like everyone else. But I don't remember them.

G: If not radio, what would you be doing?

Big A: Maybe marketing, because I was trained in marketing, or elsewhere in media.

G: What is your favourite show (local/international)?

Big A: Larry King Live

G: Who are your favourite media personalities? (local/international)

Big A: Larry King, Andrea Williams-Green, Regis Philbin, Michael Cuffe, Elise Kelly.

G: What turns you off about people?

Big A: People who are insincere.

G: If you could meet any one person, who would he/she be?

Big A: I would like to rephrase this question to who would I most like to interview, and that would be Hillary Clinton and Hugh Masekela.

G: What is the one thing that people would be surprised to know about you?

Big A: I don't know if this is a surprise, but I used to teach Sunday school!
