After being given up for dead for most of the competition, Naggo Head Football Club of St. Catherine continued to show signs of life yesterday when they defeated fellow relegation battlers Wadadah 1-0 at Catherine Hall in their Wray and Nephew National Premier League match.
Veteran Layton Barrett produced the vital goal in the 89th minute to give his team their second consecutive win, following victory over Village United the previous Sunday. The win puts Naggo Head seven points behind Wadadah.
Coach Wayne Fairclough was overjoyed with the win and
credited it to the spirit in the team for the past three to four weeks.
"This is a good result which is down to the spirit that we have developed. Today we played in spurts but captain Layton Barrett produced the goods," Fairclough said.
But while the mood in the Naggo Head camp was one of elation, the opposite was true for the Wadadah camp where interim coach Allan 'Creature' Aarons was left contemplating his position after just one game in charge.
"In terms of the impact of the loss, it is tremendous. I have just taken over as the coach since Monday last. I was looking for us to get a win to build some confidence and cement my tenure somewhat further. As it is right now I am not even sure if I want to continue," said Aarons, adding that he expected some repercussions.
This he said would come because the goal resulted almost immediately after he substituted the team's top two players, Daniel Ricketts and Rohan Reid.
