The healing of forgiveness
published: Monday | February 12, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

I would dearly love you to publish this letter for me and I am praying that the person who it is all about will read it. This person is in prison serving life imprisonment for stabbing my son Brian Jackson to death on the night of October 11, 2003.

Michael, I want you to know that I forgive you and I want you to make use of the time you are incarcerated and get to know God; and believe me I mean it, because no matter how much I hate you, nothing will separate you from God's love, so why would I continue disliking you?

I am offering you my forgiveness and may God forgive and bless you. I wanted to come visit you and tell you personally but you know the authorities won't allow it. All my blessing on you, son.

To everyone who has lost someone you love, I am begging you to please forgive the one who did it. I know it will be hard at first but trust me it feels so good. And let's face it, you cannot bring back your child to life or your parents so why not do the only good thing that is available, which is forgive and let our good feelings and spirit heal the land. Our hatred is causing more death, so let's forgive. I will pray for you.

To people in Montego Bay who have lost someone you love, if you are ready to forgive the person, known or unknown, please come and let us pray together.

I am, etc.,
