Ocho Rios, St. Ann:

A police detective sergeant and his 18-year-old son have been arrested following a shooting incident in Ocho Rios, St. Ann, Saturday night.

The incident has left two persons nursing gunshot wounds.

The teenager has since been charged with robbery with aggravation, wounding with intent and illegal possession of firearm. His father, Detective Sergeant Gilbert McDonald, has been detained pending further investigation and a ruling by the Director of Public Prosecutions. (DPP).

According to Detective Inspector Everton Grant, the policeman was apprehended at the St. Ann's Bay Hospital while trying to seek medical assistance for his son who had been shot.

The policeman, he said, was also seen trying to dispose of a firearm in a dump behind the hospital.

Escaped with gun

"The son of the detective sergeant is alleged to have held up a licensed firearm holder about 9:00 p.m. in Harrison Town, near Ocho Rios," Detective Grant said. "In an apparent scuffle, both persons were shot after which the son of the police officer managed to escape by car with the victim's gun in his possession."

He said the car that was used in the robbery belonged to the policeman, in which he later drove his son to the St. Ann's Bay Hospital for treatment.
