A BOTTOM-of-the-table clash will take the spotlight today on a day when only two matches will be on due to the Jamaica Football Federation's Annual General Congress at the Montego Bay Community College.

Bottom side Naggo Head travel to Catherine Hall to meet 11th-placed Wadadah, while Village United will host Arnett Gardens in the other game at Elliston Wakeland Centre. The other four matches will be played tomorrow.

After recording their maiden victory in the competition just a game shy of two rounds in the three-round competition, promoted Naggo Head have found reason to be optimistic about avoiding what seemed certain relegation.

With that being the case, they could not have asked for a better opposition than the team closest to them in Wadadah, who are on 16 points to Naggo Head's six.

"The spirit in the camp has been up. It has been high since the morale-boosting win over Village United and I have been trying to use that to motivate them as we take on our friends in Montego Bay," was how Naggo Head's Wayne Fairclough summed up the situation with his team ahead of today's game. "It will be hard, but we have to take three points if we are to catch the teams that have been moving away from us and make realistic our hope of avoiding relegation," he said while pointing out that in his 30 years of coaching, Montego Bay has been one of the most difficult places for a travelling team to pick up a win.

Refashioned team

Fairclough has refashioned his squad around schoolboys, such as Kenardo Forbes, captain of Manning Cup champions Bridge-port Comprehensive, and some of his teammates, as well as Oliver Blake and Christopher Allen of Kingston College.

With youth, he has blended the experience and leadership of much-travelled veterans such as Denton Shedden, scorer of their winning goal last week, Garfield Edmond-son and Layton Barrett.

Jacomena Barrett, on loan from Portmore United, is also expected to feature.

Wadadah, depending on how the players respond could come out blazing or wilt as they will be without former coach Anthony 'Follies' Williams and his unique style of coaching and with former national representative 'Allan Creature' Aarons and his cerebral approach.

The only blot in the book of resilience that Village have displayed under the guidance of Fitzroy 'Johnny' Reid is the loss to Naggo Head. Playing at home they should be even more keen to show their fans that that result was a one-off.

Arnett Gardens, on the other hand, must be still smarting from a 2-0 loss at home to Portmore United and would want to put it behind them quickly.
