St James cops cut down 'Stone Crusher' member
published: Sunday | February 11, 2007

WESTERN BUREAU:

Kavian Chin, who police claim to have been member of St James' notorious Stone Crusher gang, was shot dead Friday during what the cops say was a gunfight with a police patrol.

According to the constabulary, police operation was taking place in St James' Portobello district in the early afternoon when officers signalled a vehicle to stop. The driver disobeyed and instead sped away.

The police chased the fleeing vehicle, eventually catching up with it. But rather than surrendering, three men, including Chin, 25, came out firing, which the cops returned.

Two of the men escaped, but Chin, of Glendevon, St James, was hit and was later pronounced dead at the Cornwall Regional Hospital.

Meanwhile, gunmen shot dead Andrew 'Timeless' Scott in Montego Bayin Friday as the spate of killings continued in the western city.

Scott, of Sammy Bush, Hendon Norwood, was walking along the Norwood Main Road at about 12:20 p.m. when he was attacked by two men and shot dead, the police said.
