Forgetful generation
published: Saturday | February 10, 2007

Jah Foresight, Contributor

We have been celebrating the life of Bob Marley since the beginning of Black History Month. I had the privilege of making presentations across the island, discussing the legacy of the great one. This year, the theme is, 'Get Up, Stand Up For Your Rights', which reminds me of the struggles of Peter Tosh and Walter Rodney.

I am the only countryman among such greats as Clyde McKenzie, Amina Blackwood-Meeks, Howard Moo-Young and Garth White leading the discussion for the past four years. This year has been sad for me regarding such discussions. I am finally convinced that this Generation X is only familiar with Redemption Song and One Love.

Most of the other popular songs are unfamiliar to them. One has to wonder what songs are played at home to little children. When Bob was alive, we had only two radio stations versus the 16 or more that penetrate our airwaves. We have lost our social consciousness as a people. The dancehall vibration is a drug that has devoured the soul of our youths. There are no true leaders of their generation, apart from Beenie and Bounty. It is so important that Miss Lou and Bob Marley be named National Heroes now.

I have received two emails from readers expressing that I have made no comment on the cartoon of the Prime Minister. They feel that as a writer for this newspaper, I am afraid to express my views on the matter. The reason why my views are important is that I give excellent lotto rakes and make clear predictions. Woman is a key factor. Let us look at terms such as White Woman, Black Woman, Belly Woman, Dutty Gal, Queen, and different body parts, etc. which are important in winning the game.

Uncharitable cartoon

I am never for censorship to adults; I believe that art is art. Personally, I am not happy with the way the Prime Minister was dressed in the cartoon. I can tell you that for the upcoming election, colour, shade and class will play a major role, among other issues, and that is sad. I do not foresee any cartoon with the Leader of the Opposition dressed in green underpants bawling for bangarang. That is so far from my imagination and both leaders do not deserve this. The depiction of underwear is a very important aspect of our social culture and psychic and we have to be careful of the messages and the messenger as well.

The Gleaner as an institution is always able to give different views, and that is what our democracy is all about.

Jah Foresight is still looking at the role of power this week. I have noticed that with power, sexuality always sneaks up, especially in verandah talk about infidelity and carnal abuse. First, I must say that I 'bun a fire' on an adult having sex with minors. Sex is easily accessible, so carnal abuse is not necessary.

I am sorry for entertainers, preachers and politicians. These people are in the public spotlight and women will throw themselves at you. As a man, temptation will be knocking at your door, and at times, it is agony when you cannot yield. If you run away, you will be a laughing stock among modern women. It is so important that whenever a man enters public life, his wife should stand by his side. I can tell you if you ever create any space, you will truly destroy your marriage.

A double ugly lotto winner of $35 million is sexy in the eyes of some women and there is nothing in the mix about love or compassion. Power and money is magnetism to women in a capitalist economy where sex has different range of prices.

The jackpot is growing at $13 million. The numbers on Wednesday were 1, 4, 9, 11, 15, 31 and the bonus ball, 21. There were 29 winners of the Match 5 category of $7,767 each with one winner of $375,406 in the bonus ball category. I think that you should think about thief for this Saturday. Why would a person steal clothes from the Salvation Army when you can just beg for it? It is not like stealing love on the side.

I get to understand that Jamaica owes about a trillion dollars. What is a trillion dollars? When does a trillion dollars become a zillion dollars? How many trillionaires are living in Jamaica?
