Spencer, Walker headline 'Classic' field
published: Saturday | February 3, 2007

The 10th Youngster Goldsmith Hurdles & Field Events Classic to be held at the Stadium East complex and the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association (JAAA)/Puma Development Meet at Jamalco are on today.

At Stadium East Complex, World Junior champion Kaliese Spencer and national champion Melaine Walker will be the star attractions.

Spencer will make her seasonal debut in the event in which she won gold at the 2006 World Junior Championships - the 400 metre hurdles - alongside Walker, a two-time World Junior medallist, who ran the 800m at the Queen's/Grace Jackson meet last week.

World Youth and Pan-Am Junior 100m hurdles silver medallist, Natasha Ruddock, who only ran on St. Jago's 4x150 team in St. Thomas at the Howard Jackson Relays two weekends ago, will run her pet event for the first time this season.

The Classic, which is sponsored by Lucozade alongside NCB eServices, Jamaica Biscuit Company, Confectionery & Snacks, Pepsi Cola Jamaica, Western Sports, Rainbow Awnings, begins at 9:00 a.m. with the heats of the 400m hurdles open.

Brigitte Foster-Hylton, one of Jamaica's finest ever athletes in the 100-metre hurdles, will be the patron for the meet, which will see action in all sprint hurdles, pole vault, shot put, discus, javelin, 400m and 300m hurdles, high, triple and long jumps.

Meanwhile, at Jamalco, all the top schools, Kingston College (KC), Calabar, Jamaica College (JC), Wolmer's and St. Jago on the boys' side, and Holmwood, Vere, Edwin Allen, and Manchester among the girls, are expected to put on a big show of teams.

The events to be contested are 1500m, 200m, 400m and 800m.
