Police set to extend their lead
published: Saturday | February 3, 2007

Howard Walker, Staff Reporter

Police National will try to extend their lead when they host Maverley/Hughenden as the 13th round of the Jamaica National/KSAFA Super League continues today.

In the other games, Barbican tackle Duhaney Park, Cavalier play Meadhaven United, Santos host Mountain View, Greenwich Town versus Constant Spring and JDF take on Bull Bay. All games start at 3:30 p.m.

Police National on 27 points are seven ahead of second-placed Meadhaven and could extend that gap to 10 if Meadhaven lose to Cavalier.

Police National - last year's Major League champion - should secure their ninth win from 13 games against a Maverley/Hughenden team languishing in 10th position on 11 points.

Second-placed team Meadhaven - last year's Major League runners-up - will have a fight on their hands against a dangerous Cavalier outfit.

The David Hunt-coached Meadhaven are on 20 points and would want to stay in touch with a victory against a Cavalier team in seventh position on 14.

Difficult encounter

Third-placed JDF on 18 points also have a difficult encounter against fifth-placed Bull Bay on 17 points. Both have a game in on the leading duo.

Based on JDF's good performance against premier league champion Waterhouse in the Jackie Bell Knockout, where they lost 0-1, the marching men should be full of confidence in securing their sixth win.

Former champions Santos in fourth with 17 points must put their home advantage to good use with a win against ninth-placed Mountain View on 13 points.

Santos cannot afford to slip any further behind the leaders and should rebound from their midweek 1-3 loss to Tivoli Gardens with a win.

Former premier league cam-paigner Constant Spring have rocketed up the standings in recent weeks to be in sixth position on 15 points.

The Danny Lyn-coached team could continue that run with an away win against lowly Greenwich Town, in 11th position on 11 points.

Meanwhile Duhaney Park, after playing to a 0-0 draw with Trelawny's Holland United in the all-island Red Stripe Champions Cup KO, should win against Barbican.

Eighth-placed Duhaney Park on 13 points should secure three points at the expense of a winless Barbican team rooted to the bottom on seven points.
