Wray and Nephew National Premier League defending champions, Waterhouse, closed out a disappointing campaign in the Caribbean Football Union's (CFU) Club Championships with a 1-1 draw against Deportivo Banda Abou of Curaçao at the Waterhouse Stadium on Tuesday.
The title holders, who still had a bit of support from fans who speckled the stands despite the match being of academic interest, had to come from a goal down to earn the draw.
The Drewsland team got off to an inauspicious start when unfortunate defender Michael Stone attempted to block a cross, only to have the ball deflect past a helpless Richard McCallum Waterhouse custodian in the sixth minute.
The wily Damion Williams gave the fans something to cheer about when he managed to rescue a share of the points with his blast from eight yards out in the 64th minute.
Waterhouse, who hosted the competition's Group B, opened their crusade with a disappointing 2-0 loss to Haitian Club Baltimore Sportif. They were then eliminated from the competition on Sunday without playing another game in the three-team group when Sportif went on to thrash Deportivo 4-0 and wrap up honours at the top of the group with six points.
Advancing teams
The Haitians advanced to the semi-final round of the Caribbean Club Championships, along with last year's local league runners-up Harbour View, who came out on top in Group A.
Sportif and reigning CFU Club champions Harbour View FC, await the Group C winners which will be decided between W Connection and Puerto Rico Islanders and the winners of Group D, which is currently taking place in the United States Virgin islands.
The next round of the Club Championships is expected to resume later this month, with the eventual champions progressing to the 2007 CONCACAF Champions Cup.
