Bank on Ruckus in the eleventh
published: Friday | December 15, 2006

Orville Clarke, Gleaner Writer

Wesley Henry ... will ride WINNING MESSAGE.

Both the Pick-9 and Super 6 start anew after both were cornered by punters at Caymanas Park on Wednesday.

The Pick-9 failed to survive a fourth consecutive raceday as two punters came up thumps to share the $1.8 million jackpot, each receiving $917,559.

The Pick-9 embraces races three to 11, the Super-6 from race six to 11. We look at the Super-6 which gets under way with an apprentice race (no whips) event over 1100 metres to be contested by 10 starters. This will more than likely come down to a straight fight between the speedy pair of ELECTRO SMART and DEAR-DREAMER.

Preference is for the Philip Feanny-trained ELECTRO SMART, a lightly raced 3-y-o colt by Royal Minister out of Sophisticated Mama who won his only race over this trip on July 2, but has kept better company since. Now back among his peers, ELECTRO SMART should win from DEARDREAMER and RED I.

Race seven for the Richard Ashenheim Trophy over 1500 metres for native bred two-year-olds, should also resolve itself into a straight fight between Feanny's LA DANCER and the well-forward debutante COLUMBUS to be ridden by 'Hall of Fame' jockeys, Winston Griffifths and Charles Hussey, respectively.

One to beat

LA'S DANCER showed promise on his recent debut when a fast-finishing third to rank outsider TRACK STAR over 1200 metres and now better for the experience, is preferred to the Percy Hussey-trained COLUMBUS, a bay colt by Ghost Ransom out of New Chris.

Briefly, WINNING MESSAGE with title-chasing jockey Wesley Henry aboard, looks the one to beat in the eighth race over 1200 metres for $160,000 claimers, while QUEEN OF MY HEART along with CHOSEN ONE, who was narrowly beaten by GIRL IN GOLD in the recent Gerry Skelton Memorial Cup and the down-in-class RUCKUS are firm fancies in the last three races.
