DVD REVIEW - A bright bunch
published: Friday | December 15, 2006

MOVIE TITLE: Little Einsteins Mission Celebration.

GENRE: Animated, educational.

WHO'S IN IT: Four bright, cute tykes, a rocket ship and a big jet.

RATING: ★★★★

RUNNING TIME: 72 mins.

WHAT IT'S ABOUT: The high IQ quartet of blonde and blue-eyed Candy, black hair with matching eyes Junie, black kid Quincy and Leo with green glasses frames to match his peepers go with them on three interactive adventures. All in their red Rocket Ship, of course, which needs leg patting power to get going. That patting is one of several interactive features, another being a pause where appropriate to have the children fill in before the answer is given. (Frankly, it makes me feel much brighter than when I am watching Junior School's Challenge).

The three adventures are 'The Birthday Machine', 'Go West Little Train' and 'The Birthday Balloons'. The Big Jet is the evil snatcher of trains and balloons. The various trips introduce gondolas and the leaning tower of Pisa, sites within Seattle and the mild, mild west. Music from composers Mozart, Georges Bizet and Bach are introduced at the start of the adventures, which each feature the get going song "We're going on a trip/in our favourite rocket ship/Little Einsteins climb aboard/get ready to explore..." (It really helps when your kids know the song, OK).

LONG STORY SHORT: The short trip to the long journey to Italy and across parts of the U.S. for those who don't have the money or the visas - or both. Very children-friendly, interactive and won't drive the adults crazy when the children want to watch it five times running.

THE REEL LOWDOWN: OK, four times running. Five is stretching it. If you like any mild cartoon, you will like this one. If you prefer the animated bang-ups of the jolly kind like Road Runner or the more modern Ed, Ed and Eddy, skip Little Einsteins. And there is no deep 'you don't need a licence to drive a sandwich' philosophy like Sponge Bob.

BONUS FEATURES:You've Got a Mission game, previews of Winnie the Poo, Spring Time with Poo, The Little Mermaid, Special Edition DVD provided by CariHome.
