Claudette Powell - contributed

Claudette Powell is no stranger to entertainment, as she has been in the industry for over 16 years. Though she was born in New York and has enjoyed stints abroad, she found her roots by coming to Jamaica. Now, when the bigger shows such as Sting, Sunsplash and Sumfest are on, CP, as she is affectionately called, is right in the mix covering them. On a regular day, though, she serves as host of FAME's E-Spot and E-Zone.

The Gleaner: How did you get started in media?

Claudette Powell: In 1989 I was an assistant producer for 'Reflections' on PBS in Gainesville (Florida). My mom said I started when I was four when I took over the P.A. system at school.

What is your dream job?

A job where I can use all my creative skills and educational background.

What has been your best moment working in the media?

There have been so many.

Have you been faced with negative remarks?

No, I have had only positive feedback from those who hear me on the radio.

If not radio, what would you be doing?

I would probably be a marine biologist or an astronaut (laugh).

What are your favourite shows?

The 'Chapelle Show', 'Daily Show' with Jon Stewart, also a lot of shows on Cartoon Network.

Who is your favourite television personality?

The late Ed Bradley. I really looked up to him.

What is one thing that people would be surprised to know about you?

I am a member of the Crazy Bike stunt team.

What are some characteristics of persons you are drawn to?

First humour and then ease and confidence. They must be real and true to themselves.

Name the one person you would most want to meet.

The Dalai Lama.
