No loans for single folks?
published: Friday | December 1, 2006

The Editor, Sir:

The National Housing Trust (NHT), this question goes to you. Am I to believe that benefits or loans will apply to couples only?

What about single men and women? A two-bedroom goes for $3.5 to four million dollars, one individual gets 1.5 million from the NHT, where on earth will an individual get the additional two to 2.5 million to put on the loan been offered by the NHT or is it safe to say that you are catering for the rich also?

In other words, it is clearly stated that a single woman or man must go find a partner to double up so that they can get a loan to purchase a house through the NHT? But, on the contrary, who says an individual wants to put together with anyone to achieve a home? No one wants to suffer the consequences that may occur, waiting down the line in such an arrangement.

NHT and the Government say they care about people? Well, there is need for more studio apartments so that poor people can afford to have a home that they can afford. Think on these things and do something about it. Thank you.

I am, etc.,

M.D.
